  • Harry’s Round Table: Photo Practice #1

Posted on October 15th, 2009 No comments

This exercise is intended to encourage a photographic awareness of the usefulness of the compositional skill of selection of the aspect ratio of a final image.

To accomplish this exercise you are required to photograph the same subject (for example, one church, not several different churches), and produce final images representing the following aspect ratios:

    • Horizontal Frame:  3:2
    • Horizontal Frame:  4:3
    • Horizontal Frame (panoramic):  2:1
    • Vertical Frame: 2:3
    • Vertical Frame: 1:2
    • Square Frame: 1:1
Note: All of the above ratios are width:height

The final images are to be attained through cropping or full frame from camera. Images should fit within the 1024×768 pixel space but represent the above ratios. For example the 3:2 ratio may be represented by a final image size of 1024×683 pixels.

Bring your set of images to the December 9th Harry’s Round Table meeting as jpg files on a CD for critique and discussion.

If you have any questions about this excerise, please contact Dick Kenyon for further details.
